How to know if chiropractic is what your child needs?
Is Chiropractic Care Safe for Newborns? Here's What Every Parent Should Know
One of the most common questions we hear from new parents is whether it is really safe to bring their newborn to a chiropractor. It is a fair question, and we love that you are asking it. It tells us you are paying attention and that you truly care. That is exactly the kind of parent we love working with.
The answer is yes. When performed by a chiropractor specifically trained in pediatric care, chiropractic is not only safe for newborns, it can be one of the most meaningful things you do for their health in those early weeks.
What does a newborn adjustment actually look like?
Infant adjustments look nothing like what most adults picture when they think of chiropractic. There is no cracking or popping. The pressure used is no more than you would use to test the ripeness of a tomato, incredibly gentle and specific. Many babies sleep right through it.
At Connected Kids Chiropractic in Gallatin, TN, we use soft, fingertip-level pressure to evaluate and gently address areas of tension in the spine and nervous system. The whole appointment is calm, unhurried, and done while your baby is comfortable, often right in your arms or lying on a padded table.
Why might a newborn need chiropractic care?
Birth, even a straightforward and uncomplicated one, puts significant physical stress on a baby's spine and nervous system. For births involving interventions like C-sections, forceps, or vacuum extraction, that stress can be even more pronounced.
After birth, the nervous system controls everything: how well your baby feeds, sleeps, digests, and self-soothes. When there is tension or interference present, it can show up as colic, reflux, difficulty latching, poor sleep, or general fussiness that nothing seems to touch.
Chiropractic care for newborns is not about treating a disease. It is about making sure the nervous system is free to do what it was beautifully designed to do.
When should you bring your newborn in?
Many families in Sumner County bring their babies in within the first few weeks of life, especially if the birth involved any interventions, or if their baby is showing early signs of tension such as favoring one side, difficulty latching on one breast, excessive crying, arching the back, or constipation.
That said, there is truly never a wrong time for a nervous system check. We see babies from just days old all the way through their teen years, and we meet every single one of them right where they are.
What to expect at your first visit
Your first visit at Connected Kids always starts with a conversation. We want to hear your birth story, your observations about your baby, and anything that has been on your mind. You will never feel rushed here.
From there, Dr. Paulson does a gentle hands-on evaluation alongside three non-invasive nervous system scans that give us a real, objective picture of how your baby's nervous system is functioning. No guessing. No assumptions. Just clear, honest data that we walk you through in plain language.
The first scan is a Heart Rate Variability scan, or HRV. This measures how well your baby's nervous system is adapting to stress. A healthy nervous system should be flexible and responsive, and this scan tells us whether it is.
The second is a Surface EMG scan. This picks up the electrical activity in the muscles along the spine. When there is tension or interference in the nervous system, the surrounding muscles react. This scan shows us exactly where that tension is hiding, even in a baby who cannot yet tell us where it hurts.
The third is a Thermal scan. This measures temperature differences along the spine. Because the nervous system controls blood flow and temperature regulation, uneven readings can reveal areas where communication is being disrupted.
Taken together, these three scans give us a clear starting point and something we can actually show you. As care progresses, we run them again so your family can see the changes for yourself. That part never gets old for us.
Every single time a family walks through our doors, we feel genuinely honored to be trusted with their care. That is not something we take lightly.
If you are in Gallatin, Hendersonville, or anywhere in Sumner County and you have been wondering whether to bring your little one in, we would love to meet you both. Book your first visit and let us figure out together how we can help your family thrive.
